Hysterectomy

Recommended Posts

I have to have a hysterectomy on the 16th of April. 😔 Kind of nervous. Just wondering if anyone has had one or know of someone who has and did everything turn out ok?

I had one in December 2017.  They'd hoped to do a laparoscopy but it ended up not being possible so they had to do the old-fashioned c-section type of incision.  I was in pretty bad pain for the first week, but the medication they gave me managed it pretty well; mostly I slept.  Definitely have someone stay with you if possible if you live alone, because you may need help getting in and out of bed, etc, for the first few days.  (My mother insisted on watching me shower.  That was overkill.  😂  But I was too tired to argue!)  Take the pain medication as directed instead of waiting for it to start hurting again.  Prepare food ahead of time, just in case.

You might also ask your surgeon about whether or not they're taking your tubes as well - this is apparently just starting to become routine as a potential preventative for ovarian cancer, as many start in the tubes and without a uterus they serve no purpose.

I had total laproscopic hysterectomy along with removal of tubes and ovaries. Was the best thing I ever did, as I was continually having bad paps! Stayed one night in hospital. Only took Tylenol and ibuprofen for pain for two days. I had cramps that were worse than this surgery. Went shopping 2 days after my surgery. I was back riding my horse after 6 weeks. It was fine. I don't know the reason for your surgery, as everyone is different.
