Hi, A medical doctor recommended N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) to me as there is lots of emerging evidence regarding the psychiatric benefits of this natural supplement (see https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/results?term=n-acetyl+cysteine&Search=Search an example of just how many clinical trials are now being conducted on it). I have personally tried it for a few days (though I was also simultaneously taking rhodiola, another supplement (herb) with psychiatric benefit at the same time) and found it to be very effective in mitigating panic attacks as well as reducing overall anxiety (though again, not sure which to attribute the effects to). I felt much better after about a week, but then, the effects started to wear off, and I am not sure if this was due to something that happened to me (back injury) or, as I saw in another post, if I was supposed to be taking it for a few days, and then taking a few days off to let glutathione levels stabilize (the post suggested that eventually, the body will stop producing enough on its own when taking the NAC for too long, which increases glutathione levels). So, just wondering if anyone has any experience at all with this? I also have another question regarding NAC and SSRI's. I am now taking Zoloft, and I decided to try the NAC in combination with it as well. I felt very weird the day after taking the combination, but then again, Zoloft was making me feel very weird on its own as well, especially during the first week. So again, if anyone has any experience with taking NAC in combination with any medications, I would love to hear about them.
