Jenn 2 Posted June 12, 2017 Hello All! So, I will start out by saying that I saw the doctor for this last month. Lost the blood work paperwork and the Rx I had been prescribed is just getting filled (took a while). But, this is intermittent and really still freaking me out. Two things are going on: 1) When I eat, food seems to go down slow. And now, I find myself obsessing about it. Every bite, every swallow, I think "Please go down normal". 2) Every couple of weeks, my stomach on the left side gets irritated on and off. Now, I do think some of that might be constipation, but not 100% sure. My doctor (bless her heart), tried to assure me and did not think I needed an endoscopy even. She wanted to try the meds and thinks that will clear up the issue. Has anyone else had that feeling with the food and started obsessing over it? I guess I am thinking that I am now psyching myself out over it and making it worse.
MsLLL 413 Posted June 12, 2017 Yes! I did! And it's horrible...like all anxiety symptoms! It got so bad in my case I had to force myself to eat and no, I don't have any eating disorders, never did. It purely came from anxiety and like you stated: Obsessing over it! It's a cycle. I lost weight during that period and I missed eating normally so much. In my case this issue went away once medication kicked in and it was wonderful to eat without having to worry about how it's going down and the fear of chocking. My best wishes to you and a big hug! I've been through it and know how it is. For a while I ate a lot of soft foods. But it really is in our mind. Oh, and the other thing that has helped prior to medication (and still does with everything overall) is meditation. I just listened to lot of youtube videos while eating, that somewhat soothed me.

Blu74 14 Posted June 16, 2017 I've had this on & off for years. I thought I had read once that it can be some kind of muscle spasm in or near the esophagus. For me food sometimes goes down sooo slooow and almost feels like it wants to come back up but never does. I literally have to stop and wait for it to go down, or the sensation of it going down. It doesn't happen often but happens enough to where it's noticeable & has been happening for many many years. I've never gone to the dr for it, I figure since it's been happening for so long that it can't be anything bad. I thought I also heard that acid reflux can cause that sensation as well. It also happens to me when taking pills sometimes. Seems like more of a nuisance.
