Wingnut 13 Posted September 10, 2017 Hey everyone! Currently I am laying in the guest bedroom of my girlfriends in Pompano Beach, FL. If any of you know there is a category 4 hurricane going over us right now....I am panicking to the extreme. Last night I woke up to the scary wind sounds and completely tensed up to the point I became cold, and couldn't even walk. My muscles all over my body basically seized....Today I have been freaking out hoping that doesn't happen again. I have Klonopin with me and my medication Luvox. Plenty of supplies. But I cannot relax to save my life. I am literally scared for my life right now. Any advice? D':
NervUs 140 Posted September 10, 2017 JUst curious .... why didn't you evacuate? I don't know what to say, I have no advice. It is definitely a terrifying event, and I wish you safety! I don't live in a hurricane zone, so I don't know this info, but is there a part of the house the recommend you stay, like inside a closet with no windows (what is recommended for tornadoes). Figure it out and go to the safest spot. I hope your anxiety eases b/c there is no turning back now and you are going to have to ride this out and you will need your wits about you. I wish there was an easy way to snap out of anxiety, but we all know there is not. Are you there alone?
ZELDA 52 Posted September 10, 2017 Hi. Im from the caribbean so i def. Know about Irma. First i pray all of you are well. Try to stay calm. You will always hear the wind and another sounds during a hurracane. Try to sleep while it is there. Advise dont gobout as soon as the wind stop. When there is a hurracane and the eye is passing by there is a moment of calm before it starts again.

bin_tenn 1252 Posted September 10, 2017 A friend of mine is in St Petersburg. According to the most recent model from the NHC, the eye is set to pass directly over them. All is well. They're just riding it out the best they can. Stay safe and hope all is well.
Wingnut 13 Posted September 11, 2017 Thank you guys the storm has passed me. I still feel like I've been shot up with loads of adrenaline though. My stomach still feels tight. We have no power but have a generator. I'm at my friends home actually so I'm not alone...it just scared them to see me literally freaking out and shivering because of fear. I've lived in Florida all my life and my parents are native. But we have never seen a storm like this. The evacuation failed because of the amount of people on the road. And sadly the entire state has been impacted. But thank you guys. I hope tonight with less winds I can sleep and be less tense, but we will see. Just a random question...what if I was having a seizure? Or I became somewhat hypothermic in my sleep?
ZELDA 52 Posted September 11, 2017 The worse has passed. Get some rest. You will make it thru and things will be alright.
MsLLL 413 Posted September 11, 2017 Hi Wingnut! I'm sorry you had such an extreme experience, it sounds like you had several Panic attacks. From what I can tell the worst is behind you guys down there, in terms of immediate danger. You are young and healthy, you will not get hypothermic in your sleep nor will you have a seizure. It is just an extreme experience our bodies and minds go through when we have Panic attacks, I promise you! I've been there last year.
Mark G 1187 Posted September 11, 2017 Yes, like Sunny has said, no seizure, just the effects of adrenalin. Rest up, you're ok.
