mythypaw 0 Posted March 5, 2017 Hi, all. I've just registered to this site. Yesterday I was diagnosed by a NP with type A flu (tested positive). I'm 17, female, and overweight. I've had the typical symptoms and the fever seems to have gone down. This morning though I discovered some petechiae rashes on my right arm, upper and lower (no where else) I know the difference between small red dots from sun exposure to this. Should I be worried? Thanks for your help they seem to be popping up out of nowhere.
JOYCICLE 654 Posted March 5, 2017 The body can react in so many ways to something like a virus/ flu. I have very blotchy skin. If I get frustrated, hot, angry or sick I get a very blotchy spots on my upper arms, chest and neck. I also look blotchy after a hot bath for a little bit. I wouldn't worry. If they get worse or you have any other symptoms, then you could get them checked.
Ihadcancer 321 Posted March 5, 2017 Rashes are very common with viruses. Petechiae on one arm if caused by something serious would be very weird, in my humble opinion. Possibly you slept on the arm, had a fever during the night and the spots are from heat??? What type clothing were you wearing? My husband teaches and coaches and kids were shirts with that open mesh and can break out in petechiae where they've pushed against the mesh or rubbed like a rug burn while playing basketball, etc. When I was young, I was very afraid of petechiae. mythypaw 0 Posted March 5, 2017 I was wearing a regular cotton t-shirt. I've recently (yes I googled...) found out that petechiae rashes can be from type A influenza under H1N1 which, from what I can tell, is the most prevalent variant of type A. As far as I know, I don't move much when I sleep and I don't care for laying on my right side. I'm trying not to worry... I've had health anxiety since the beginning of high school and I only have two months left! It runs in the family. My biggest fear is usually leukemia (probably because a girl who is a year younger than me at school had it, but is in full remission), so this was a big spike for anxiety. If I hadn't tested positive for flu then I may have been even more worried! The dots seem to be fading now? They're turning brown. Thank you for your comments. Ihadcancer 321 Posted March 5, 2017 Sounds like you've got it under control. Feel better soon. YIKES, the flu is one nasty virus!
bin_tenn 1252 Posted March 6, 2017 Ah, cross posting between AC and NMP. You're that worried, huh? Sorry you're so concerned. Are they in large groups, almost forming a bruise-like appearance? I believe you're fine and I wouldn't think it's unusual at all, given the fact that you're ill with the flu. My mum had the flu recently, as did many in the office I work in. I hope you get over that funk soon. I know it can be quite miserable.
mythypaw 0 Posted March 6, 2017 Hi. Yes I did post on both, heh... also no, they are very singular. While I mentioned before they're turning brown, that was just lighting, but the one that was most noticeable is shrinking. They're also in small groups, singular enough that I could number them. I'm not as worried as I was. Hoping I just don't wake up with more or something. Also, as far as I remember this is my first experience with the flu, and it's not been too too bad. I haven't felt like "death" more like a bad cold with more aches than usual. I haven't had a fever since I got diagnosed so I am going to school tomorrow (but it's not real classes, they're special courses that we sign up for that are fun and none of mine require too much energy) I'm pretty sure I'm fine. I'm just trying to stop worrying!
bin_tenn 1252 Posted March 6, 2017 You have the right idea. Don't stress it too much, it's fine. Just hang in there, get all the rest you can, drink plenty of fluids, etc.
mythypaw 0 Posted March 7, 2017 Ah, now the fatigue has hit me. I totally understand how bad it can feel now
Ihadcancer 321 Posted March 7, 2017 Sweet mythypaw, The fatigue remains, sometimes for weeks after the real flu. Don't push yourself too hard and get rest when you can. This too shall pass. Big cyber hugs and wishes for a good day, Diane
mythypaw 0 Posted March 7, 2017 Thank you, Diane. I honestly thought I'd be hit with the fatigue earlier. I thought I might have gotten lucky! Oh well, trying not to exert myself. - Robyn
