LADA 44 Posted November 17, 2016 Hey everyone, so I am desperately seeking help tonight with some feelings I had no more than 5 minutes ago! I got upset at my daughter for being disrespectful. As I was talking to her in my strict tone. I immediately started feeling the WORST discomfort in my chest. Pain!!! Felt like I was going to die at that point!! Has anyone ever experienced this???? Like I really felt like I was having a heart attack!! I am now scared to even get a little upset. Fear of dying on the spot ????
jonathan123 2368 Posted November 17, 2016 Hi Lada. No chance!!! The pain is a direct result of your getting uptight with your daughter. The talk with your daughter created tension which 'triggered' the tightness in the chest muscles which frightened you and then more adrenaline and more discomfort. Now any parent getting annoyed with a child would feel some tension, but it would soon pass. Not so with the nervously ill. It hangs on and, because of increased tension due to more adrenaline being put into the system by fear, goes on and on. It does eventually die down, but is very unpleasant. Don't be scared of being annoyed or upset. You may well be again, but take deep breaths and let it happen. Don't struggle and try and fight it off. That does not work. If you were anywhere near a heart attack you would not be posting on here, that's for sure. TRY and keep as calm as you can. Difficult??? I know, but acceptance is still the only way. If you avoid situations where you MIGHT be upset you will go on doing it forever. At some time it has to be faced and dealt with. You always have to come back and begin again to accept. Avoidance is escape, and who wouldn't want to escape from this misery. But it's not the answer.
LADA 44 Posted November 17, 2016 Oh Yes!!! My thoughts were exactly just that AVOIDANCE! But you are so very right Jon. Thank you very much for responding. I went online and got a few videos off of YouTube to help calm myself. I will not avoid being upset as best as I can. It does become very scary in the moment but I can overcome this too. Thanks Jon!
