Feeling worried about having surgery

Recommended Posts

So I have GAD and I'm a hypochondriac and I had to have a hysterectomy 10 days ago and my anxiety has been insane! I'm not in any pain really I just feel very tired and weak and loss of appetite and kind of out of it. Now the anxiety is coming in by feeling like maybe I shouldn't have done this cause my body can't handle it, am I ever going to feel normal again, I'm constantly feeling dread since doing this and it's been really hard to start to feel better when the anxiety is keeping me down. Just wondering maybe if anyone else has had surgery and if you felt the same way? Or how I'm feeling physically and emotionally are normal? Please try to keep it positive I don't want to panic lol

My mother had the same surgery and she felt awful for a bit after.. Its normal. You just had surgery..  Your GAD and Hypochondria will def flare up after that cause you just feel crap right?  But, all that stuff gets better with time. After surgery it is completely normal to feel everything that you do.  Let yourself heal, dont be hard on yourself that you should or shouldn't feel a certain way. Every body takes its own timeline to heal and recover.  The norm of it all after surgery and add some anxiety with that of course its gonna make it feel more intense...

Give yourself time my friend. And you will heal and start to feel good again. Eat what you can when you can . It all will come back . My mom felt similar for about two weeks and then it started to get better and she could eat more..

All normal!!!!!!

I'm not a woman, Chelsea,  so I can't understand how that must be to go through. What I do know is, that when you have a major part of your body removed, it is super traumatic on your body. Very brutal. I'm no doctor either, but I wouldn't doubt your system is in a state of shock, so to speak,  and will take a while to recover. Eat well, take care of yourself, and don't over-exert yourself. Your body needs some healing. Peace.

You’re going through a really normal response to a big surgery. Feeling tired, weak, out of it, and having little appetite 10 days after a hysterectomy is expected. Your body is still healing. On top of that, anxiety, especially with GAD and hypochondria, can make everything feel more intense and make you doubt your decision. Many people feel exactly like this physically and emotionally after surgery. If you want more guidance and reassurance during recovery, resources like drjefflisiecki.com can be really helpful. It does get better over time. Rest, gentle nutrition, and giving yourself permission to heal are key. If anxiety spikes, reaching out to your doctor or a therapist for reassurance can really help. You’re healing, and it’s okay that it feels hard right now.
