kozza 6 Posted September 15, 2014 Still got insomnia, with the help of 7 sleeping tablets I have managed to get some sleep and thankfully my fatigue and tiredness has lifted to a certain extent. No more tablets though and last night was 1 hours sleep. I have had this before but all night my hands and feet felt burning hot and today they just feel as if I have got chilblains, sore and achy. Anyone else have stuff like this? Sometimes I cant help but think anxiety cant do all this can it? Blood tests came back okay but I wonder. I had a wonderful doctor who retired last year and the 2 I have seen so far just don't seem to have the same listening skills.
Gilly 1086 Posted September 15, 2014 I did yes kozza, badly but you already know that. I know it sucks, and is uncomfortable, but give it time it will get better. If it doesn't don't be scared to ask the doctor to make sure it's anxiety, make sure your thyroid is normal, that is something that can cause these symptoms too. I think you have already had all the tests to rule that out anyway? It was one of the first things my doctor did.
Okmom 9 Posted January 23, 2015 Does anyone still check this post? Having the symptoms too and I'm scared. Not much support at home. My husband just says "snap out of it".
Macdonalddobies 15 Posted January 23, 2015 I have gotten burning heels before, and my legs get achy too. I have seen a neurologist and they say I am fine. It happens, goes away for a while, and comes back randomly. It must be a side affect of anxiety. I was convinced I have MS for so long, cause I have had other strange things to go along with it. I would say get it checked out, but don't be surprised if they find nothing.
kozza 6 Posted February 10, 2015 Hi There It was my post and things are a lot better for me, not perfect but better. The key was a doctor that listened, I went on prelagabalin which completely helped but also reading loads about how emotions and stress can cause all manner of pain and symptoms. I am not back to how I was but getting better. Not so much burning anymore but achy tiredness which is prob due to the fact of putting on weight with comfort eating and too little exercise. Diet and exercise day today!! Hope that helps
Okmom 9 Posted February 10, 2015 I'm on 20mg of prozac and they are starting me on clonipin. No one understands .. They haven't found anything but a hgb a1c of 5.5. My skin feels like it's rolled in fiberglass and things are stinging me.
Torontogirl 73 Posted February 11, 2015 Okmom, have you been tested for your symptoms ? Has anyone said it was anxiety? I am experiencing neurological symptoms as well. It is awful. Just wondering if you have gotten any answers? Ahhhh!
jonathan123 2368 Posted February 11, 2015 Hi Okmom. Welcome. As you have been put on medication then you have obviously been to your doctor. If he/she has checked you out then stop worrying about other health issues and concentrate on anxiety and how to recover. 'No one understands'. But they do: WE DO. There is no one on this site who doesn't understand what you are going through and you are far from alone. We are all here for you; at a distance but still here. It is not generally recognised but the skin, the epidermis, is an organ of the body, the largest in fact. It regulates our temperature; allows a management of moisture and feeling. So, when you get the symptoms you describe is it surprising that it is the skin that is affected? You will be OK if you go about it in the right way. Much info on this site so have a good read then come back when you want. Jon.
Okmom 9 Posted February 11, 2015 Hi everyone. These symptoms happened for me after a surgery back in December of 2013. A month and a half after the surgery I started to develop all kinds of strange pareathesias . Tingling, burning, crawling, biting sensations. Anywhere from head to toe!! So scary. I feel sick over it and my anxiety has gotten worse because of it. I'm a masters prepared nurse so I do know some things but I haven't been able to find one doctor that has ever heard of anxiety causing this. I have been tested for MS, lupus, Lymes diease. I've been to allergist. I've had my hormones checked for peri menopause. The only thing that comes up is my HGB A1C is 5.5. I'm at the doctor now doing a glucose tolerance test and I've had the skin biopsies sent out to test for small fiber neuropathy. Before all this I was a fit energetic mom of 2 young boys with a stress full job and marriage but doesn't everybody have that? The first time it happened it was for 5 months and Then just went away. It was gone for 4 months and then came back in sept and has been with me ever since. I'm scared this is the rest of my life. Guys help!! I get s*****al sometimes but could never leave my sweet boys. How does this make any sense. I don't have a history of anxiety issues.
jonathan123 2368 Posted February 11, 2015 Tingling, burning, crawling sensations. Well, a doctor hasn't heard of them? I have because I had them many years ago. They are on every anxiety website. There is a Canadian website that you can find on this site at the bottom of the 100 symptoms of anxiety. You have to pay a small fee to get on it but it goes into more detail about symptoms and you will find all the creepy crawly symptoms there. There is not one single part of the body that can't be affected by anxiety. Not a one! It affects people in different ways. Mine goes to my stomach, others get headaches, sickness etc, etc, etc. I know some doctors say it is all in the mind. Of course it damn well is, where else would it be? Talk about stating the obvious. But that does not make the aches and pains any the less real. You have become 'sensitised' and that means your nerves are all over the place. Doctors have to pin labels on us so all the things you mention are their way of saying they don't know what's wrong. I do. Anxiety. Believe me after many years of suffering and coming out of it I know what I am talking about and so do we all here. You will be fine; just give it time and try and accept it as anxiety and nothing else. Jon.
Okmom 9 Posted February 11, 2015 What can I do to get better.? This has been going on for about a year. And the crazy thing is it's still there even when I'm having fun and don't feel stressed! It makes no sense to me. Will it eventually just go away and let me have my life back?
Torontogirl 73 Posted February 11, 2015 I can relate only too well. I had a severe flu 10 years ago and at that time I got a surging sensation in my chest and prickly sensations in the skin of my legs- horrible. It stayed for about 8 weeks then went away. It came back 2 years later for a short time, then went away again. A couple of years later after an extremely stressful period it came back and now won't go away. I have been tested extensively and no cause is ever found. I am going nuts with it. You aren't alone.
Okmom 9 Posted February 11, 2015 Does anyone ever get an explanation of exactly what chemically or physically is causing it? It's taken over my life. Every doctor I go to has a different theory and I've been to a lot of them, 12 to be exact. My body just feels sick. Mine happened after gall bladder surgery. This past year now it just comes and goes and I can't figure out how to manage life with this. There are days I just lay in my room and cry all day. I have 2 small boys and I don't want to spend their childhood like this ... I'm desperate to be free of this nightmare. I most recently went to Duke where they are testing me for small fiber neuropathy. I've prayed for The Lord to heal me. Nothing seems to make it budge. I feel a constant sinking in my heart. Is this my life? I never had anxiety problems before but with this symptom I sure do now. Is there any hope for a normal life?
Okmom 9 Posted February 11, 2015 Jonathon123 What did you do to get it to go away? Vitamins, exercise, diet... How did you do it?
Torontogirl 73 Posted February 12, 2015 Ok mom, I am in the same boat as you. I have had a horrible prickly feeling in my legs and a chest surging sensation for a long time. I have been tested to no end and nothing shows up. I am at my wits end too. The first bout was 10'years ago after a flu. It went away totally twice. This last bout started while I was very stressed out.... If you get any lab results would you please let is know. Feel well! Any comment on my situation would be appreciated. Okmom 9 Posted February 12, 2015 Mine feels like a sensory peripheral neuropathy. I feel it everywhere. I'm 5'5" and weigh 130.. I'm not over weight and I'm a healthy eater for the most part. I've been checked for everything. It starts as soon as I get up in the morning and gets worse at night. It feels like crawling stinging burning anywhere and everywhere on my body. I don't understand .. Can chronic stress really cause these sorts of symptoms?! It doesn't make any sense and I can't find any literature to back it up. I keep thinking something most be wrong that they haven't found or don't have the technology yet to find. I'm falling apart. Do you think prozac could be causing it.. ? I just want it to be over .. It's been 6 months this time.
Torontogirl 73 Posted February 12, 2015 Did it begin after you began Prozac? Does yours go away while in bed at night? The doctors gave you no indication as to what is?
Okmom 9 Posted February 12, 2015 No but it did start 2 days after taking lexapro.. It had been gone for months! Mine does go away while in bed at night. Does yours? But it's present as soon as I wake up in the morning and gets worse in the evening. I feel so s*****al somedays. I have been tested for MS which is negative, all autoimmune stuff has been ruled out. I most recently saw a neurologist at Duke and he sent tests for small fiber neuropathy. All this started about one month after having my gall bladder removed. It was a stressful recovery as I was in a lot of pain. Then wham, this started. It went away after about 5 months. It was gone for about 4 months then I started feeling depressed again started taking my lexapro again and 2 days later it was back and has been back for 6 months. Torontogirl 73 Posted February 12, 2015 Yes, mine is a lot better while in bed. Strange. Mine has gone away for long periods of time as well. As I said it came back when I was really stressed out. It is awful - really does suck the joy out of life. Would you please let me know how your small nerve test goes? I went to a neurologist who specializes in this and she ran a load of tests and said I didn't have it, but she didn't do any skin biopsies. I hate to admit it, but wine helps a bit. Maybe it relaxes, who knows. I hope we both get better.
Okmom 9 Posted February 12, 2015 It sounds like we both have the exact same thing. Wine helps mine too. I have had a very stressful marriage over the past few years. We love each other but we fight and bicker a lot. I'll let you know when my skin biopsy tests come in. I'm with you. I've lost my joy. Everyone says just to try to get my mind off of it. I just can't seem to do that.
Torontogirl 73 Posted February 12, 2015 I sometimes wonder if I am so stressed about this whole mess that i can't heal. I am seeing a psychologist to see if that helps. She did say that psychosomatic illness can show up in many ways. Who knows. Post if you want to talk. Please let me know about your test results. Enjoy your wine tonight. Lol
Okmom 9 Posted February 12, 2015 Are we allowed to exchange numbers to talk? I wonder how in the heck I could be so stressed as to cause something so horrible as this. I can't help but be convinced and scared something really bad is happening to me. I mean I've always been a perfectly healthy woman. Maybe a little high strung at worst. But this is crazy!! I promise you. I will keep you up to date with anything I find out. Please do the same. Maybe 2 heads are better than one!
Torontogirl 73 Posted February 12, 2015 Ok mom I sent you a private message. It has my email address. We can email if you'd like?
Gilly 1086 Posted February 12, 2015 Hi ladies, if you read some of my posts you will find I had these exact same symptoms for a couple of years. My doctor put it down to stress and anxiety, at the time I was almost 40 and wondered if it could be peri-menopause related. I still don't know if hormones played a part but it did go away and got better once my anxiety did. I had so many neuro symptoms, tingling, burning, buzzing skin and limbs, feeling like my skin was wet, cold, hot and no visual signs or reasons. Feeling like someone was pricking me with hot needles or tickling me with feathers. It was crazy. I feel your pain because it was horrid. IT did go away when I went to bed, it always got better late at night but would be back in the morning. Can stress and anxiety cause all this? 100% YES, most definitely and in my experience it can be triggered by high stress or anxiety, medication can help but for some it can make it worse for a while, or even trigger it. We are individual and different in what set it off but we share the common symptoms. For me I already had anxiety to a degree but then my Mum suffered a major stroke, and that was the catalyst that pushed it to a new level. Time does heal, but acceptance goes a long way too. One thing I tried and continue to do to this day is have epsom salt baths 2-3 times a week, the magnesium and minerals in the salt help to relax and comfort our nervous systems. This won't last forever, and it does not mean something is seriously wrong, I promise you that. Doctors who think anxiety cannot cause these things need to get online and read some of the posts from people who will prove that wrong! Paresthesia and anxiety is more common than they think!
Torontogirl 73 Posted February 12, 2015 Gilly, thank you for your reply. It came at a very good time, as I am feeling quite down today.
