Spasm in my right calf

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I started getting these spams in my right calf. The left one is ok. I feel it more when I am driving. I have not google... I am scare of what it could be.... anyone had that? I mean I had cramps in calves before that are very painful and they would go away... but this is NOT painful, it's a weird pull, tightness sensation. any ideas?

I’ve had this a lot of times. Espcially when driving. Mine also twitch a lot. I’ve noticed when I have this, if I eat a banana it helps. I really don’t think you need to worry about it. I’ve had it off and on for years

Yeah I get this a lot too when I'm driving, like feeling constantly on the verge of cramping or just generally tight in the calves and arches of my feet. Almost definitely a result of all our stress and anxiety (and exercise if you do leg exercises)!

Yep, same. We drove ~10hrs to Florida a couple weeks ago, and when we came home it was ~12hrs with traffic. Combine that with all the walking and driving we did while there, and my calves are still aching / cramping this week if I sit for an extended period of time.

Yes to muscle tension.  I have gotten this too.  Stretching, massage,  or even using a foam roller helps.  It may take a few days of of trying to relax it before you notice a difference, so be patient!

Thank you all, so far I haven't had the cramping today, it must have been caused by walking uphill for the 2 days prior. Thank you all.... why do we worry about every little thing???? GGGRRRR I drive myself crazy!

That's great that you are feeling better!  Walking uphill 2 days prior??  And there's your answer!

Hello Leah...  There are many reasons for the twitching of leg muscle to occur.  You mentioned that it is your right calf, and of course that is the foot/leg that you use to control the gas and brake pedals of your car.  So overexertion is a good possibility.  Anxiety can also cause twitching, and I have had that one happen to me.  Other causes include dehydration, or a deficiency in magnesium, vitamin D, or calcium.  Certain medications can also be the culprit.  These may include antidepressants and also diuretics ("water pills").  In the vast majority of cases there is nothing to worry about, for it's merely your body having a muscle twitch.  Glad to hear it hasn't happened to you today.  The very best to you, Leah!...  Chuck🐈

Thanks! It did go away.... I do suffer from twitching everywhere in my body.... ever since I started lexapro but I had it before that as well..... I started taking magnesium to see if it helps. Thanks for your post!
