Anxiety after drinking?

Recommended Posts

Is it just me or does your anxiety seem to be worse the day after drinking? I am not hung over really just seems like I feel all out of whack. That makes it easier for my fears to slip in I guess. I worry about things getting stuck in my throat. Which is ridiculous I know because obviously I am not going to put anything in my mouth but it still scares me! Grrrr wish these feelings would just go away so I could be  normal for even a short while

Yep, I don't drink anymore mainly because it used to make my anxiety so much worse. Because we are highly sensitive I think it's like being hungover x100. Add to that alcohol dehydrates you, especially in the summertime you can feel even worse. It's hard enough dealing with anxiety without these added complications.

Yes alcohol can do that to you. I used to be a huge drinker and I would have bad anxiety the next day, including a throat closing up feeling and gagging sensations.

Hi Mrscoll. It may not be generally realised and it is contrary to what we feel but alcohol is a depressant. Look it up. It is you know! When you have a night out drinking the alcohol affects your metabolism and makes you feel happy but this is short lived as in the morning, as Gilly says, you feel 100% worse. Drinking is best left alone but if that is not possible then in moderation. When in my GAD I tried the  'get rid of it by a good drink' method but I soon realised that was not the way out of anxiety or depression. The swallowing thing is typical anxiety and can occur when you sit down to meal in a restaurant. Most embarrassing and it has sent some to the restroom. All part of the anxiety thing and not to be over exaggerated if possible. This question of dehydration. Someone said to me that how could they be dehydrated when they had drunk five pints. It's the alcohol in the drink that causes the problem not the liquid. The water that would normally stay in your body passes through very quickly with alcohol so leaves us dehydrated. Best left alone.    Jon.

Drinking is just not worth it. I dislike the feeling of being even the slighted bit off/tipsy/drunk. I cannot imagine a hangover .

Thanks everyone! Like I said I have always had a problem with a fear of swallowing things and them getting stuck.  I can't even eat certain things because it freaks me out! Nice to know I am not alone

I find after a night of drinking, I am so down it's unbelievable. I stopped drinking when my husband was out at work. My husband is now home on wknds and so I may have a big night drinking with him and friends but I take precautions. I drink plenty of water, eat something and don't do shots. I will have a hydralyte as soon as I wake up and no matter how hungover I may feel I dont lye about as I dwell and this makes me anxious and depressed.

Alcohol is a depressant. You feel good while under its influence but, inevitably, you will feel bad after. This is an inescapable fact. You know the solution.    Jon.
