RachelStorm98 12 Posted March 18, 2019 Okay... am I gonna die? I swallowed accidentally more than a pea sized amount of toothpaste... Colgate to be exact... I brushed my teeth around 8:00 last night I am freaking out... I don't want to die! My mom thinks I'll be okay... she told me as a kid she once ate half a tube of toothpaste and was okay. *sigh* I mainly experienced stomach upset since then. Nausea and have vommited up spit but dang... I can't tell if some of it is horrific side effects of the Lexapro... I want to go back to sleep but it is 3:00 in the morning and I am convinced I'll go back to sleep and never wake up. Can't wake anyone up. Door is locked pretty good and my mom's boyfriend will smash my phone to bits if I even so much as wake my mom up... PLEASE HELP! I need support and I need to be calmed down... RachelStorm98 12 Posted March 18, 2019 I was brushing, gagged, some of it went down the wrong pipe meant to spit it out but my reflexes weren't good enough so I wound up swallowing some of it anyways... I then continued brushing... rinsed as much as possible then I accidentally swallowed a little bit more. Ughhhhh I HATE toothpaste! This is why I am terrified to ever even use it!!! 😭😭😭
jonathan123 2368 Posted March 18, 2019 Rachel. There is nothing whatsoever in toothpaste that could possibly cause any harm NOTHING!!! Got it? The manufacturers see to that. Even small kids have their teeth brushed with it and some swallow it. It's your anxiety doing this to you not the toothpaste! Take it easy. You are working yourself up into a state. Take deep breaths. YOU ARE NOT GOING TO DIE. NO WAY!!! If everyone who swallowed toothpaste died there would be few people left. TRY and relax. Lie down, take deep breaths and realise it's what anxiety does, nothing more. You are OK. Go slowly and try and understand that you are doing this to yourself with fear and worry. Come back when you want and let us know how you are. There are many here who are going through the same thing as you so you are not alone. Try and just ACCEPT how you feel without being afraid of it. It's the fear of fear that causes the nasty feelings. Blessings and take it easy.
bin_tenn 1252 Posted March 18, 2019 I agree, nothing to worry about. To @jonathan123's point, my 4yr old daughter loves the way her toothpaste tastes, and she swallows it on a regular basis. Haha.
mollyfin 366 Posted March 18, 2019 Nothing that is expressly made to go in your mouth would be toxic in small amounts. Think about it - how many deaths by toothpaste have you heard of? If small amounts could kill you, they'd be pretty commonplace. I'm not sure why your mother thought eating half a tube was a fun way to spend her day though 😂 That's so much! My eyes water from the tiny amount you need for brushing.
RachelStorm98 12 Posted March 19, 2019 So I should be okay guys? It has already been more than 24 hrs that I felt I got "fluoride poisoning " from the toothpaste. Unfortunately, my symptoms this morning got worse... it hurts when I breathe in chest wise, I ache everywhere, major stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, liquid watery dirreaha pretty much all day, fatigue, head aches, itching, dehydration (due to the fact things are coming out both ends.) Joint aches, lightheadedness/dizzy, more saliva, getting difficult to swallow, and on top of all of that, mom took my temperature. 100.2 so I am running a fever. *sigh* I don't know what this is anymore... Fluoride poisoning, Food poisoning, or the simple case of the stomach flu
RachelStorm98 12 Posted March 19, 2019 Oh and I forgot to mention sweating. 😅
lofwyr 215 Posted March 19, 2019 Well regardless of the temperature, it wasn't your toothpaste. If swallowing toothpaste was dangerous, I would have been a goner by the time I was like 8.
