Atrophy Question **Trigger Warning**

Recommended Posts

I have been battling the ALS fear for a few months now.

I have a question about how the disease process works. How small can it really start in say a hand? Could it specifically begin in one of the three thenar muscles or would it cause failure of all the muscles supplied by that nerve at once?

I ask this because my right thenar palm has a line in it and one of the muscles is puffier than the other two. I know that without weakness this is probably just an assymetry, but wanted to see if anyone had insight.

Thanks.

My main insight would be that you are definitely over-analyzing. ALS weakness is profound. It isn't minor, it is standing up and falling over because of muscle failure. It is not being able to pick up a salt shaker because of muscle failure.

My big question would be are you talking to anyone about the anxiety, which is likely the main culprit at work in your life right now, causing you to obsess about ALS?

Assymerty brother. As long as we are sane in the brain we don't notice how different left and right sides of our bodies are. Once we start the madness, here comes the doubt. If you have atrophy, real atrophy, then your nerves are already dying and dying nerves cant perform. There's no ALS atrophy without weakness. Not. None.

Peee-U. I smell goggle.

Why would you do that to you self?

Are you getting treatment for your anxiety?
