AshDone 23 Posted January 24, 2019 I’ve been feeling a little off for the past week and a half. Maybe it’s because of starting nursing school or lack of sleep. On my first day, I thought I was going to have a heart attack and die. Anyways, I’ve been having what I think is dizzy spells that last a few seconds and my head has been feeling funny. So of course I think I have a brain tumor... 😭 What are the chances of be having brain cancer at 26? I had an MRI March 2018 of my heard, which came back normal. What are the chances of growing a tumor in 10-11 months? I know some brain cancers can be very fast growing and aggressive. Does anyone have any statistics or something that they can give me? Ruu 39 Posted January 24, 2019 I think almost certainly have nothing to worry about. If it was that fast growing and aggressive you’d be having more symptoms than just feeling dizzy. Fast growing aggressive cancers give the worst symptoms, as far as I’m aware. Take a look at the symptoms here: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/malignant-brain-tumour/ Dizziness isn’t even on the list. Iugrad91 501 Posted January 24, 2019 That’s why lists of symptoms are not reliable to self diagnose anything. If you had a brain tumor, dizziness would absolutely not be your only symptom. Especially dizziness that only lasts a few seconds. Dizziness can be caused by hundreds of benign things like dehydration, ears being clogged, anxiety, medication, allergies, a cold, quick drop in blood pressure, sinus problems, and on and on. If you had a clean MRI 10 months ago it is most certainly not a tumor.
enidoreilley 83 Posted January 26, 2019 Are you dizzy or lightheaded? I described myself as dizzy for years when I was actually lightheaded and the two are quite different. Now that I have iih, I am dizzy all the time and it's a constant feeling of being off balance. My husband says I walk sideways and it feels like the ground is moving away from my feet. In any case, vitamin deficiencies and stress are far and away the most common causes of lightheadedness and dizziness is typically caused by something way less frightening than brain cancer. Keep an eye on it and if it hasn't resolved in a week tell your gp and they'll probably order blood work.

The room doesn’t actually start spinning. When it happens, I just feel a bit unsteading for a few minutes. Like I have a weight pushing down on my head, that’s the best I can describe it. Are you drinking enough water? I mean so much that you need to pee about once an hour? If not, increase your fluids and I bet it’ll vanish.

mollyfin 366 Posted January 28, 2019 Brain cancer at 26 is pretty rare. AFAIK it mainly strikes children or people in their later years. Not to say it can't ever happen, but it's the least likely cause of your dizziness. Could be sinus infection, allergies, fatigue, anemia, low blood pressure (especially since you're on a diuretic), anxiety, quite a number of other things I'm forgetting or don't know about.
