Prozac

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I was just prescribed prozac today for my anxiety and Panic.  I was hoping to hear if anyone had any good stories for this medication.  I'm VERY nervous to start taking it.

Thanks!

Mindy

hey Mindy :)

I know my sister in law has been taking Prozac (also known as Fluoxetine‎ here in the UK) since November and it's working great for her, she suffered little side effects too. Every one is different as you know,.zoloft/sertraline didn't work well for her sp her doctor switched her and she did much better.

Thanks Gilly.  I think positive stories will really help me feel better and more positive about taking it.  I'm extremely nervous about the side effects so this definitely helps!  :)

Hi Mindy. You can only give these meds a try. If they don't work for you then the doctor will try something else. Please do not be afraid to take prescribed medication. In the short term it will get you over a bad patch and, more importantly, give you time to reflect on how you feel the way you do and why. So many are frightened to take medication for anxiety yet we take all sorts for other complaints. I think it is because there have been so many horrors stories about anxiety medication most of which are completely unfounded. Anxiety medication in the short term is sometimes necessary. I have heard some good results about Prozac and, as Gilly says, some things work well for some and not others. It is sometimes a case of trial and error but the main thing is not to add to your anxiety by being afraid of medication. Keep in touch with your doctor and tell them about any side effects you may have. Be guided by them.  Best wishes.    J.

Hey MIndy,

It is different for everyone but I've been on Prozac for a few years now and I've had a very positive experience. I was crippled by my anxiety and depression before the meds and it gradually gave me my life back. I intend to stay on it for life. The only side effect I've experienced was in the beginning I was more anxious and my hands shook. It passed and now I don't notice anything unusual.

Also the more positive your attitude is toward the meds the better the outcome tends to be. I just think of them as vitamins that make me healthy and feel better throughout the day.

Hi tofu. My wife used to call the tranquilisers 'little calmers' and why suffer when you can get relief. We knock the pharmaceutical companies and I know they tend to rip the NHS off when charging for drugs but there is also the other side when real suffering is alleviated. I think you have the right attitude.   All the best.   J.

I've been on prozac for ages, had a few nasty side effects at first, but nothing too bad. After that the really helped :)

Well done Mindy. If we have made you feel better then that's exactly what it is all about. As Gilly says, don't go it alone.  We ALL understand how you feel so do not hesitate to come back when you want to.    Good luck.    J.
