Medication Ups and downs
nate808 replied to Jessie-lee06's topic in Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
Usually anti-depressants take few weeks to fully start to work, since you've only been on it 12 days, you are quite possibly in the beginning stages of common symptoms associated with these drugs. I'm not currently using Lexapro, but I am taking Prozac and I had similar negative reactions to it the first 3 weeks or so. If you can hold out a couple more weeks, the medicine could start to help. But like Jonathan said, it's best to consult this with your GP before making any decisions to stop taking it or reducing it. and btw, chiropractors are great!! They help so much with muscle tension caused by anxiety. Hope you start to feel better! Take care -
Anyone else have these anxiety/panic symptoms?
nate808 replied to BellelovesBooks's topic in Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia
Hi and welcome to AC! Yes, it's very common to stress and overthink things, especially related to health concerns. So going the whole day with anxiety but not getting an attack, but then getting one later when you feeling relatively better is also common. It's happened to me before, where one day, I'm super stressed, with no attacks and the next day I'm fine up until I hear or do something that may have caused an attack in the past, and it just hits me. The only way to help this, is to try to chip away at the things stressing you out. Not all at once, but figure out what you can do to make things a little less stressful day by day. Listening to soothing music, exercising, reading etc. Eventually it all adds up and you'll notice yourself getting less attacks because you're overall stress levels are down. The attacks seem to be the body's way of telling you something is wrong, and its most likely the thought process we have in overthinking things. So just chip away at it little by little. Hope this helped! Take care -Nate -
Keeping busy with things you like. Maybe reading, listening to music or talk radio. I usually listen to sports talk radio, which has helped a lot these past few months, because it distracts my mind from thinking about sensations and concentrates on anything the announcer is talking about. Hope this helps

Welcome to AC! Sorry, you're going through such a tough time :/ I also get dizzy, but the doctors have ruled out anything serious or other conditions. It's tough trying to function when you can get your balance, but also having anxiety because of it. The pins and needles sensations are very common with anxiety, i still get them once in a while. At least with your case, the doctors know whats causing your vertigo/dizziness. Hopefully you feel better soon dude! Take care, -Nate

It does get better! Im in the same position as you, for the past few months I couldn't leave my house. Now I'm getting out and traveling further from home and even go into grocery stores. I limit the time I spend in them, so I try to go when it'll be less crowded (middle of the day or late night). I feel shaky and dizzy after doing it, but it's just the adrenaline rushing through the body since we're not used to the experience like we once were in the past. Just keep pushing through it and you'll be ok Take care -Nate

Should I be upfront with my primary about my anxiety?
nate808 replied to timshel's topic in Health Anxiety
Hi Timshel (nice name!), welcome to AC! Sounds like you do have serious health anxiety, but it is good you're getting checked out by your primary doctor just to be sure. Don't worry, everything will be fine, I've been through anxiety scares where I thought something was seriously wrong with me too. I got checked out and everything was ok, but it still took a little while to get used to the fact that it was anxiety. I myself am not 100%, but I'm a lot better with dealing with my anxiety than i was a few months ago. Take Care -Nate -

Yes, it is very good for you! Helps with brain functioning and healthy for the heart. It doesn't cure anything, but helps maintain a healthy body. I eat a vegetarian diet, so its very helpful for those that don't eat meat and don't get the essential fatty acids from meat. But talk with your doctor before taking them if you are taking any sort of medication for another condition. Hope this helped! Take care -Nate

Hi anderson! Have you had a physical done? There may be a medical condition that could also be causing your anxiety and yawning. Im not saying it is, but its always good to know for sure. And sometimes certain SSRIs and other anti-depressants are hit or miss with different people. Sometimes you get lucky and your first meds works okay for you. Anyways, hopefully you're having a good day! Take care -Nate

yeah, sometimes we all need a little help and SSRIs aren't necessarily a bad thing. I was against them for the longest time, but just started taking Prozac a few months ago, and now doing much better (but not 100% yet). Hang in there, you'll get better -Nate

Welcome to AC Will! Sorry you're going through such a hard time right now. Yes there are lot of people here that have been through similar experiences and can relate. I myself suffered from derealization and GAD as well as panic attacks. I know that agoraphobic feeling of not being able to leave the house for long periods of time. I usually can't travel to far from home. Have you seen a therapist to talk about these issues? Hope you are doing good today Take care -Nate

Hi Thomas, welcome to AC! Yes, I often get dizzy spells throughout the day. Sometimes from standing up too fast, or just turning my head to fast. Have you been checked by a doctor to see if there's a possible physical condition that could also cause this? I've been checked, and told by doctors it's my very bad anxiety. Hope you feel better! Take care -Nate
