Anxiety/depression secondary to other health conditions
mrsalphabet replied to sphinx's topic in Undiagnosed Or Unsure
Yep. Although I have always been a nervous person, my anxiety really skyrocketed after I had my first gallbladder attack. Then after having it removed it went completely out of control. It started with stomach problems related to reflux and IBS which got worse after having my gallbladder removed. -
For me it's when I accidentally oversleep. I hate having to rush and get 3 kids up and ready for school and out the door by 7:25am. Then my daycare kids come at 7:40, so there is no down time. That totally ruins my day JOY I hope your day gets better.

The mind is a powerful thing, and I do believe that anxiety can cause other illness. I don't believe it can cause things like diseases, but it can most certainly cause stomach issues, lower your immunity so you seem to catch virus' easier etc..... I know I had a few surgeries when I was younger. I was miserable for about a week before the surgery. My anxiety and nervousness about the surgery presented in "bitchiness" for me. When I look back now I was horrible to my mother, because I took it all out on her. She was a saint through it all though!

Yay!!! good luck to you! I hope it you get it. Try to relax, and not worry about it. Be yourself and be confident. I personally wouldn't tell them about the anxiety, just a I wouldn't tell them I had hemorrhoids

I have a fear of meds, but not of the Dr.s. I always feel better after I talk to the Dr. She is so patient with me and she puts my fears of health anxiety at ease. She understands my problems and is honest with me, but she also listens. I had a Dr. that brushed me off for so long. I never felt like he listened to me. I felt like he was rolling his eye's the mintue I left the room kwim?

Favorite type of food?
mrsalphabet replied to Urban Legend's topic in Nutrition, Supplements and Exercise
Oh I'd have to say pizza. There is nothing more relaxing than Friday night movie night at home with the kids in front of the T.V. with a box of pizza -
Comforted or left alone?
mrsalphabet replied to Quirky Jessi's topic in Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
It really depends on what it triggering the anxiety for me. Normally a phone call to my mom can calm me down and get my mind off things. She definitely has a calming effect on me for some reason. If it's the middle of the night when it happens, I will sometimes crawl into bed with one of my kids and snuggle. I know that sounds weird, but seeing them, hugging them, cuddling with them relaxes me as well. Honestly I try to avoid my husband when I'm feeling like that. He makes it worse. God knows I love him, but he contributes to my anxiety! -
Okay so I loved the book. I was skeptical about the movie, because I usually hate movies based on books. I much prefer reading, and I form my own idea's about characters, voices etc.... I actually like the the movie except for one thing.......it make me nauseous! I had such bad motion sickness from the camera angles and the extreme close ups during the running scenes. I normally don't get motion sickness unless it's a 3D movie, I can't watch them. My husband who is very prone to motion sickness wasn't bothered at all by the movie. So weird!

Yes I would look into CBT as well. I've heard people have great success with it. I also take B12, Omega's and a B Stress complex vitamin that has seemed to help as well. I hope you find something that works for you

POLL: What is your worst anxiety symptom?
mrsalphabet replied to Gilly's topic in Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
Do I have to pick just one?????? lol I would say the heart palps. Mainly because it then triggers my heart attack/stoke anxiety. A close second would be the shortness of breath, followed by dizziness/lightheadedness. Anxiety is so much fun isn't it?- 17 replies

my anxiety is making me sleepless (just another rant)
mrsalphabet replied to thinker247's topic in Sleep Cycles
My anxiety usually rears it's ugly head at night or wakes me up from sleep. I had it. The warm "magic bags" I posted about helps calm me and get me back to sleep, and if that doesn't work i will sometime's take Benedryl. I know that's not a great answer, but it does help me sleep. -
I am currently reading 50 Shades of Gray. It is so not my thing, but once I start a book I have to finish them. I can't not finish a book I need to add more to my requests at the library. I just finished The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman - I wasn't a fan of the book.

I don't know why I never watched this show! I have recently started watching and now I'm hooked!!! I love it. I so want Garcia and Morgan to hook up. I only watch the re-runs so I don't know if they do or not. Do they????

My Dr. did to. I just went to see her last week for something that was bothering me. I was convinced once again I had rectal c*****. She asked if I googled and I couldn't lie. Of course I did! Ends up I have hemorrhoids We both had a little giggle and I got the no googling lecture again. I love my new Dr.

I don't know about you guys, but I have banned myself from googling symptoms. I am my own worst enemy when it comes t that. Because of googling I have self diagnosed the following diseases for myself: MS Colon C Ovarian C Thyroid Disease Aneurysm AAA You name it I've probably thought I had it. When i write it down it does seem so comical, but like I've said before, at the time I am seriously convinced I have these things.

What triggers your anxiety?
mrsalphabet replied to kinser's topic in Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
OMG that is so me. I actually look after kids in my home part-time so I don't have to drive in the winter. I was at my previous job for 15 years, and they completely understood my debilitating fear of winter driving. If it was snowing they automatically knew I wouldn't make it in, or if it started to snow while I was at work, my boss would send me home before it got to bad. It was such a heartbreak when I was laid off I knew I'd never find that again. And to boot, we live in a rural area, so I would have to drive anywhere to find work. -
How does anxiety affect your family life?
mrsalphabet replied to jemcintyre's topic in Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
It has had a very negative affect on my marriage. I'd like to think that my kids don't notice it, because I try not to let it affect them, but kids know so much more than we give them credit for. My husband thinking is...get over it. He didn't understand how I just could not stop worrying. He got tired of me thinking I was dying and started refusing to take me to the hospital when I was thinking I was dying. He didn't understand just how alone and how debilitating anxiety could make me feel. Since he has learned more about it, he is getting better, but I try not to let him know when I'm feeling anxious, just to avoid the whole eye roll thing. I wish I could say he's is more supportive. He is more accepting of it, but he still can't wrap his mind around how I just can't stop it. Unfortunately my middle son is showing signs of anxiety as well. I was really hoping my kids wouldn't inherit this. My Grandmother and my father are/were both sufferers as well -
If you have a good support system I say try the meds again. My side effects lasted about two weeks, and then I was back to feeling like myself again, only without the anxiety! My side effects at first were, nausea, brain fog, and sleepiness. I had to make sure to take mine with food to help with the nausea, and I also took it with supper so that my dh was home and could handle the kids for the evening. I would go to be early. In the morning the brain fog and nausea was gone until I had to take the next pill. This only lasted two weeks and then the brain fog was gone along with the nausea. If you can make it through the first two weeks I promise you it does get better. However if you have a baby to look after you may need some help I hope you can find something to help you.

Same with me. Or with what other's around me have had or are dealing with. It's like my mind is sponge for symptom's and I contribute every little thing to some major illness I must have. It sucks!

An old tip to stop a panic attack in its tracks
mrsalphabet replied to Gilly's topic in Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia
I know! Before I knew what was happening to me I can't tell you how many trips to the E.R. I made My dh was getting so frustrated with me. I am so glad I can talk things out in my head now. Sometime's it's still hard, but I can self soothe now which really helps. -
Want to share a little trick!
mrsalphabet replied to mrsalphabet's topic in Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
I got the idea from reading about weighted vests to help calm Autistic children. I hope you can find something similar if your interested in trying it! I'm sure if you sew they would be very simple to make! It makes so happy to have found someplace to share these things with! -
I honestly don't know when mine started. I've always been a worrier, but since I had kids it's gotten crazy. In the past few years I have convinced myself I have had: MS, Ovarian C, Colon C, Heart attack, stroke, AAA, blood clots It's crazy and I don't know how my husband put up with me. There were many trips to the E.R. thinking I was having a heart attack when indeed I was having a panic attack. I have been much better since starting my Lexapro. Now when I think I have something I say to myself "so Mrsalphabet, last week it was a heart attack and you were fine, so just because your hemorrhoids hurt doesn't mean you have colon c*****" It sounds comical when you say it out loud, but when your feeling it inside your head it feels so real

What triggers your anxiety?
mrsalphabet replied to kinser's topic in Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
Oh my health. I can't believe I didn't mention that one! I am also a hypochondriac, so of course any little lump, bump, burp etc... sends my anxiety into overdrive. -
I agree. Sharing stories and knowing your not alone and not crazy is as good as paying for therapy ((hugs))
