    • UPDATE
Hi Folks. I thought you might like an update on how things are going at Anxiety Promotions. Inc. This is is a copy of the minutes of our last meeting. " In the Chair, Anxiety. Those present. Fear, Apprehension, Anticipation, Dread, Angst, Distrust, Panic and Fear. Apologies for absence. Trepidation and Concern. The Chairman welcomed every one with some sad news. Frighteners, a loyal member of the Society has passed away. Apparently, while he was trying to frighten someone into a panic attack in a shop he caught a bad dose of Acceptanceitis, and became very ill. A sad loss. All stood for a minutes silence. It was agreed that Acceptanceitis was a real threat and they were working on an immunisation programme. Reports: Fear said that although he as doing his best people were still turning to therapists and counsellors and no longer listening to him as they had. He was doing so well, he said, but, there you go. He felt he no longer had the trust of the board and had thought of resignation. Cries of No No met that remark. The Chairman said that without Fear the organisation would fall apart. It was agreed that he remain an important member and they all had trust in him. Fear thanked them. Panic had some good news. To replace Frighteners he had recruited a new member, Doubt. He had proved himself over and over especially when dealing with Health Anxiety. The Board welcomed Doubt into the meeting.   Anticipation reported that so many more were falling for his particular fear. Insurance companies in the US and the NHS in the UK were getting really worried about this and he assured the meeting he would do his best to add  as much fear about what MIGHT happen as he could. Distrust said he was doing well. So many more were distrusting their helpers and advisers. Taking all sorts of silly Herbal remedies and supplements which, he was sure they all felt, were useless. A proposal was put to the meeting by Angst. 'That this meeting does all it can to help people with anxiety to 'go it alone'. To persuade them they don't need help and they can get better on their own'. He suggested that Fear could help here as so many had little trust in their advisers. Fear offered to do his best.  The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to Anxiety for organising the meeting. They would all go on working hard to create as much fear as possible. It was also agreed to put Acceptance, (awful word), on the proscribed list. His name must never be mentioned again. It was unanimously agreed. Sandwiches and beer were served in the restroom.

Hi to another jonathan. And welcome to AC . Well now, you seem to have had all the tests so why can't you believe them? HABIT and FEAR combined make a powerful mix, believe me. One feeds on the other. Over a period of time in anxiety we EXPECT it to happen and it does. We sort of 'will it' into being. Fear feeds on fear. You have convinced yourself you have a heart problem so, your mind tells your brain, "You have a heart problem", and your brain, being a loyal servant of the mind, throws up heart symptoms and feelings. No? Believe me, I know. Now this is why so many just don't believe anxiety can do that. 'How could just thinking make it happen? "There is no good or bad but thinking makes it so". Shakespeare. And the old guy was right. I know how trite is the old expression that we hear so often 'It's all in the mind', but it's true. It is! Ah now, that's the easy bit and easy to say, but to do..............! When I had GAD I wore out so many ECG machines I got banned.. Seriously I just would not believe them. Here I am 30 years later and still got a sound heart beat. Why would I not believe them? Because my mind had convinced my brain I had a heart problem. But the brain can be retrained to believe the truth and not the lies the mind sends to it. And the mind can be retrained to stop giving out lies.TRY and accept all the feelings and emotions. By accept I mean don't give them so much credence, so much reality. They are bluffing you and anxiety is the biggest bluffer going, as well as being a liar and a cheat. You will be fine if you THINK your way out just as you THOUGHT your way in. Don't be bluffed.         Jon.

Sounds like typical OCD, as a person who suffers from it myself to a different degree I can understand you questioning it. To clarify you would be labeled like myself a "checker" type OCD.  I have to check door locks, window locks, stoves, ovens, outlets, light switches and my kids among other things multiple times at night before i can go to sleep.  I recheck them because in my brain it tells me that by checking them i could have accidentally turned on the stove rather then turned it off, or the door might not have latched the lock. They do have treatment programs available for people with OCD and there are some things you can try to do which would be to refrain from checking it and realizing nothing bad happens from doing so.  There are plenty of things to try to resolve it.
